How This Tool Is Built

We start with the sharpest edge, and we don't stop there. Vanquish vibration, say adios to constant resharpening, and let wispy shavings fly. Delivering superior performance at your lathe drives our manufacturing.

We’ve worked with M42 high speed steel for 4 decades, and it’s uniquely suited to woodturning. You’ll grind less - a cobalt additive provides unparalleled edge holding. And the steel produces a finer, sharper edge for clean cuts. M42 is a win-win: less grinding and smoother cuts.

Our carefully sourced M42 starts as solid stock and is precision machined (not formed) with a unique round tang for unmatched strength. Every gouge sports a distinctive flute polish. This boosts the razor edge and provides efficient chip flow. Learn more about M42 HSS here.

Rigorous and detailed sums up our manufacturing. Each tool’s vibration-demolishing round tang has a diameter so precise you’ll hear a ‘pop’ when you pull it out of the handle. And every tool leaves our factory razor sharp and backed by a 100% lifetime guarantee. Built to last!

Rest assured our aluminum handles feel as great as they look. Perfectly weighted for balance and maneuverability, and designed to fit your hand. You’ll forget the handle is even there, in the best way possible. Two set screws secure your tool into the handle and allow removal for sharpening.

From flute polish to handle knurling, we’re not cutting corners. Whether you’re just starting out, or have been turning for decades, it’s an honor to serve you with quality tools. Learn more about our story here

Could Have Been Better

After ordering the free sharpening guide for wood turning tools I decided to also purchase a coffee mug. After a few days I received my coffee mug, sharpening guide and the postcard size business card. The documents were bent so bad they were unusable and the coffee mug was severely broken from the top down to the bottom of the cup. All these items were shipped in a box 4" x 4" x 4.5", This was way too small for the documents as the actual size was way bigger. The coffee mug had bubble wrap on the top and 2 sides. the bottom and other 2 sides were unprotected and was also the location for the breaks. I spent $5.00 for a mug and another $5.00 for S&H. Even though my order was of no significance I would have expected way better and some professional packaging before shipping. I called CST to report the damage and asked not to send another mug nor did I request a refund. I just wanted to report what I thought was a serious packaging and shipping matter. I was told that I was going to be receiving a new coffee mug anyways which to my surprise was delivered within 1 business day (man wish all shipping was that fast). After looking over the coffee mug, I realized just how small of a volume it could hold. I seriously believe the cup should be much larger. Large enough to safely hold a large cup of coffee made from a Keurig coffee maker. So when the box arrived, this time I had a larger box, probably around 8" x 12" x 4.5". The coffee cup was inside another box by it self and was at the end of the box with no bubble wrap around it. The new documents were laying flat and were undamaged. Then the egg crate looking packing took up the rest of the box along with a little packing paper. I am not sure who packs the merchandise but there are some serious issues in the shipping department. Maybe if my order was a higher dollar order things may have been packaged better. Unfortunately I am now unsure if I would want to trust CST to ship me any merchandise. Maybe down the line I might reconsider purchasing from them but then again, I am only a little guy out there with many big players. Time will tell
